ANN REINKING’S LEGACY
Ann Reinking moved to New York as a young dancer with little money in her pocket and very big aspirations. With dedication and hard work, she went on to create an amazing career for herself not only as a dancer, but choreographer as well, working with the likes of Robert Joffrey, Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon, and starring in Chicago and Sweet Charity, among many others. She won the Tony Award for Best Choreography for her work on the 1996 revival of Chicago, which is currently still running on Broadway and set to reopen in September 2021.
“I believe Annie would have loved having her name on the Ann Reinking Scholarship Program. Like so many young dancers coming to New York, she struggled to find a foothold in a strange city. Short of money and friends, Annie persevered and found her way forward, thanks to some helping hands. This program will offer others following in her footsteps that helping hand, to ensure that they can succeed in their desire to make it on Broadway. That’s a legacy worthy of her name and reputation.” — Peter Talbert, Ann’s Husband
Ann’s passion for dance shined through all of her performances and choreography. We will always remember her dedication and artistry and are thrilled to be carrying on her legacy through this program.
